Project Summary

HOPE connects universities and educational organisations in Greece, Germany, and Israel. Together, they will create courses, learning activities, and shared resources that help students and educators approach conflict with knowledge, critical thinking, empathy, and practical dialogue skills.

Why HOPE?

Universities bring together people with different histories, identities, beliefs, and experiences. They can provide space for difficult conversations and help students prepare for life in diverse societies.

HOPE will work with higher education institutions serving Arab, Jewish secular, and Jewish religious communities in Israel. The project will bring students, educators, researchers, and staff into shared learning activities centred on peace education and constructive conflict resolution.

The work will connect classroom learning with dialogue, digital exchange, research, and public engagement.

The Skills at the Centre of HOPE

HOPE activities will support the development of:

• constructive communication;

• critical and analytical thinking;

• intercultural understanding;

• empathy and self-awareness;

• collaborative problem-solving;

• responsible decision-making;

• the ability to discuss disagreement with care and respect.

HOPE brings together higher education institutions and educational organisations from Germany, Greece, and Israel to strengthen the role of higher education in peacebuilding, constructive conflict resolution, and reconciliation. The project will develop a Peace Education curriculum and related learning activities that support dialogue and coexistence among Arab and Jewish communities in Israel, in the context of conflict and social tensions in the region.

Through its educational, research, and dialogue activities, HOPE will strengthen the contribution of higher education institutions to a culture of constructive conflict resolution and reconciliation, in line with the relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals.
