Expected Impact

HOPE aims to strengthen the contribution of higher education to peacebuilding, constructive conflict resolution, and reconciliation. Its expected impact reaches across curriculum development, teaching and learning, institutional cooperation, research, intercultural dialogue, and engagement with wider society.

Through these activities, HOPE will build capacity within participating institutions while creating opportunities for students, educators, researchers, and external stakeholders to engage with Peace Education in practical and meaningful ways.

Strengthening Peace Education in Higher Education

A central outcome of HOPE will be the development of a Joint Minor Program in Peace Education, comprising five new modules and five updated modules reflecting peacebuilding and constructive conflict resolution approaches.

The project will also work towards the formal accreditation of the Minor Program in Israel, supporting its integration into higher education and its continuation beyond the initial project activities.

Building the Capacity of Educators and Staff

HOPE aims to strengthen Peace Education and constructive conflict resolution competences among more than 100 faculty and staff members across participating institutions.

Training, workshops, shared teaching approaches, and cooperation among partners will help educators incorporate Peace Education into curricula and learning environments and support the continued development of these approaches within their institutions.

Reaching and Equipping Students

The project aims to reach more than 1,000 students through curriculum activities, courses, blended learning, virtual exchange, dialogue, and other educational opportunities.

Students will have opportunities to develop knowledge, attitudes, values, and practical competences related to constructive conflict resolution, intercultural communication, critical thinking, empathy, and cooperation.

Creating Opportunities for Intercultural Dialogue

HOPE will bring students, educators, researchers, and other participants from different institutions and communities into shared educational and dialogue activities.

Within the Israeli context, these activities are intended to support interaction and coexistence among Arab, Jewish secular, and Jewish religious communities and encourage constructive engagement with differences in identity, experience, and perspective.

The project approaches peace through a human security perspective, connecting peacebuilding with the wellbeing, dignity, participation, and security of individuals and communities. This approach reflects the project's connection with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Strengthening Research and Institutional Cooperation

HOPE will establish cross-institutional research networks and encourage cooperation among universities, colleges, researchers, and educators working on Peace Education and conflict resolution.

Joint research, publications, educational activities, and knowledge exchange will help participating institutions share experience across countries and disciplines and develop stronger connections between education, research, and practice.

The project also aims to establish lasting partnerships among participating institutions so that cooperation can continue beyond individual project activities.

Engaging Wider Society

HOPE aims to extend its reach beyond participating higher education institutions. Through conferences, symposia, public events, policy activities, digital communication, publications, and other outreach, the project expects to engage approximately 1,000 additional participants, including policymakers, civil society representatives, community stakeholders, and members of the public.

These activities will create opportunities to share project results, discuss Peace Education with wider audiences, and strengthen connections between higher education and society.

Creating Lasting Resources and Structures

The Peace Education Hub will provide a shared space for educational resources, research cooperation, exchange, and continued engagement with Peace Education.

Alongside the Hub, the project will establish a Peace Education Observatory to follow developments in Peace Education, support knowledge exchange, and contribute to research and policy discussions.

The project also plans to maintain educational resources, research networks, institutional partnerships, and digital infrastructures beyond the funded project period. Together, these structures are intended to support the continued use and development of HOPE's work after the project concludes.

Expected Reach

By the end of the project, HOPE aims to:

• strengthen Peace Education and constructive conflict resolution competences among 100+ faculty and staff members;

• reach 1,000+ students through educational and capacity-building activities;

• develop a Joint Minor Program comprising five new and five updated modules;

• establish cross-institutional research and cooperation networks;

• engage approximately 1,000 additional participants through outreach and dissemination activities;

• establish the Peace Education Hub and Peace Education Observatory as resources for continued cooperation, research, and knowledge exchange.

Through these combined activities, HOPE aims to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to contribute to peacebuilding and constructive conflict resolution within their institutions, communities, and wider society.
